MRA to build 1000 houses for homeless

The Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) which had earlier sent three relief teams for flood victims to Pakistan is planning to build one thousand (1000) low cost housing units costing Rs 83.4 million in various flood affected areas to provide shelters to homeless flood victims.
This was stated by Dato' Dr Abdul Razak Bin Kechik, President of MRA, during the launch of a two-day charity bazaar held in a high-end shopping complex, in Kuala Lumpur, on Saturday (02.10.2010), Pakistan High Commission Kuala Lumpur told Business Recorder in an-Email message.
President of MRA said that holding of charity bazaar in an affluent quarter of the town was aimed at raising funds to finance the construction of houses and to provide water hand pumps in Pakistan. Dr Abdul Razak said that MRA already started construction of 100 housing units in Charsadda and D.I.Khan areas, whereas other 900 housing units will be constructed after receiving of adequate funds through donations.
He hoped that during the two days charity event, MRA will be able to collect Rs 2.7 million whereas others efforts to collect the funds were also underway. The Malaysia Relief Agency teams who visited Pakistan earlier provided medical assistance, food items and clean drinking water to the flood victims.
During the inaugural session, Al-Khalifah Foundation of Malaysia presented a mock cheque of donation of Rs 1.39 million to the MRA. The Acting High Commissioner for Pakistan in Malaysia, Dr Imtiaz A Kazi was also present on the occasion. While addressing the inaugural session, the Acting High Commissioner thanked and appreciated the MRA for its untiring efforts in raising funds and in providing relief to the flood victims in Pakistan.
With more than 30 stalls of jewellery, clothing, carpets, rugs, medicines and food, mostly of Pakistani origin, the charity bazar attracted large numbers of Malaysian and Pakistani expatriates. The proceeds will go to the MRA to finance its relief operations in Pakistan.
