Leading psychiatrist and Head of Psychiatry Department, Fatima Jinnah Medical College & Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore, and President of Pakistan Psychiatric Society, Professor Dr Haroon Rashid, who died late on Monday at Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC), was laid to rest Tuesday in the Shadman graveyard.
His Namaz-i-Janaza was offered at Shah Jamal mosque after Zohr prayers. Quran Khwani will be held on Wednesday at his residence at Shah Jamal, between Asr and Maghrib. Relatives, patients and friends of Dr Haroon Rashid Chaudhry, politicians, journalists, local citizens and a large number of psychiatrists and doctors attended the funeral and paid their last respect to the leading psychiatrist.
Prominent among those who attended his funeral were Dr Mubashher, Dr Akram Javed, Dr Amjad Saqib, Professor Khalid Mufti, Dr Farid Piracha, Munir, Dr Zahid Pervaiz, and Professor Afzal Chaudhry. They praised services rendered by the late in the field of psychiatry.
Dr Haroon was Executive Director of Fountain House, a unique institution established by his late father Dr Rasheed Chaudhry for patients with psychiatric disorders. He held free psychiatry clinic in Ahbab Hospital Lahore regularly for about 25 years every Wednesday.
Dr Haroon had gone, all by himself, to Punjab Institute of Cardiology on Friday following chest pain. Doctors performed his angiography but he could not survive. Federal Minister for Social Welfare & Special Education Samina Khalid Ghurki has expressed grief on the demise of renowned psychiatrist Dr Haroon Rashid Chaudhry. She condoled with the bereaved family and appreciated lifelong contribution in the field of psychiatry.
