Seafood exports of the country surged by 82.25 percent during the first two months of the current year as against the same period last year. The fish and fish preparations during July-August (2010-11) were recorded at $29.700 million against the exports of $16.296 million in July-August (2009-10), according to the data provided by Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).
Exports of seafood during August 2010 witnessed 55.95 percent increase over the same month of last year. Exports in August 2010 were recorded at $15.010 million against the exports of $9,625 during August 2009. As against the exports of 14.690 recorded in July 2010, exports in August 2010 increased by 1.18 percent, the data said.
The over all exports of food witnessed positive growth of 19.20 percent by growing up from $488.376 million during the period under review against the exports of $409.720 million during last year. Among the food items, exports of rice increased by 30.65 percent, the data said, adding that among the rice qualities, basmati rice witnessed positive growth of 11.10 percent while exports of other rice commodities increased by 51.59 percent.
