The members of District Bar Association (DBA) on Monday partially boycotted the local courts. After wearing black badges on their shoulders, they appeared in the courts for 2 hours and abstained from the courts after 10am. Their protestation was regarding the establishment of a High Court Bench at Faisalabad. Later, the lawyers held a meeting under chairmanship of DBA President, S M Iqbal and demanded immediate passage of a summary from the Punjab cabinet.
The meeting demanded that the Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif should honour his commitment to send the summary to Punjab Governor, Salmaan Taseer, for issuance of a notification. During the meeting, DBA Vice President, Syed Safdar Bokhari thanked the members of local Civil Society, elected Legislators and Trade & Industry Leaders for their staunch support to the lawyers demand for establishment of a High Court Bench at Faisalabad.The meeting vowed that the 5,000 lawyers and 15 million people of Faisalabad division would not rest till the establishment of a High Court Bench for Faisalabad.
It was reiterated in the meeting that the members of Civil Society, Lawyers, Traders, Students and Industrialists of Faisalabad would start "Civil Disobedience" and stop payment of taxes to government and stage a Long March to Lahore and Islamabad in case their just demand was not accepted by the government by 25th October 2010.
