Supreme Court on Monday upheld the verdicts of Lahore High Court and Election Tribunal, dismissing the appeal of former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, who had requested the court to declare him winner from NA-61 after the seat had fallen vacant following the resignation of MNA Faiz Tamman.
A three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday resumed the hearing of the plea. After hearing the arguments of Farooq Haider, the counsel for Pervaiz Elahi, the Chief Justice said that the court cannot give verdict against rules and regulations of ECP, and dismissed the plea of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.
