The Indus River System Authority (Irsa) is to meet on Friday (tomorrow) to resolve water distribution issues between Punjab and Sindh, well-informed sources told Business Recorder. On September 30, 2010, the meeting of the authority remained inconclusive after Member Sindh and Federal Member (who is also from Sindh) walked out from the meeting due to serious differences with the Member Punjab.
The sources said Punjab is expected to again take up the issue of Irsa's restructuring which implies that the Federal Member of the Authority should be from the Ministry of Water and Power instead of Sindh. The incumbent Chairman, Irsa, Raqib Khan has already turned down the proposal of Punjab with the backing of Sindh.
Meanwhile, it has also been revealed that Sindh has requested the federal government to provide 20,000 cusecs water from joint pool to the people living around Panther canal and currently drinking polluted water. This matter will be discussed on Thursday (today).
