Taiwan stocks closed 0.2 percent higher on Wednesday, with chip stocks little changed despite a strong outlook from Intel Corp and defensive sectors such as department stores gaining. The main TAIEX share index ended up 16.44 points at 8,106.66. The semiconductor sub-index was up 0.22 percent, while electronics firms were up 0.02 percent. Top chip maker TSMC ended unchanged on the day.
Intel Corp forecast strong fourth-quarter sales and margins as resilient demand from emerging markets and corporations offset weak consumer spending.
