White House to go 'pink' for breast cancer

15 Oct, 2010

The White House will become the 'Pink House' late on Thursday in a visible show of support for Breast Cancer Awareness month. "At 6:30 pm, (2230 GMT) the White House will be lit pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month," deputy White House press secretary Bill Burton said on his Twitter feed.
October is observed as Breast Cancer Awareness Month every year, by public service groups, medical professionals and government agencies that combine to promote awareness of the disease. The American Cancer Society says about 207,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer in women will be diagnosed this year and nearly 40,000 women will die from the disease.
