The government has upgraded the posts of over 350 Inland Revenue Audit Officers of the Federal Board of Revenue (from Grade 16 to 17), which would help the tax machinery in carrying out composite audit of sales tax and income tax of business and trade during 2010-2011.
According to an announcement of the Muhammad Afzal Malik, President Inland Revenue Audit Officer Association, here on Tuesday, the audit and enforcement exercise of the FBR would be fully implemented during 2010-2011 in view of vast experience of said audit officers in detection of evasion and recovery of taxes.
The association has congratulated more than 350 Inland Revenue Audit Officers of FBR on the issuance of upgradation notification by the Establishment Division. The association has also requested the tax authorities to issue formal notification in accordance with Establishment Division.
The association has decided to convene a central executive committee meeting within a few days after consultation with other association office bearers to chalk out a strategy for finalising role of the audit officers under the new organisational structure of Inland Revenue. Afzal Malik would chair the meeting andAbid Ullah Jan General Secretary, Mian Muhammad Ibrahim Advisor, Afzal Khan SVP, Azhar Sherazi Secretary Co-ordination and Ahmed Sohail Finance Secretary would attend the meeting. The association has thanked the Establishment Division and FBR top management particularly Sohail Ahmed, Chairman FBR on this landmark achievement.
It is pertinent to mention here that more than 350 audit officers play key role in the collection of revenue and broadening of tax base. These officials include highly qualified and professionally competent young officers in FBR. Within the areas of sales tax and federal excise, these officers have ample experience of 8-14 years. All the Audit Officers posted as Unit Incharge are delivering excellent results.
The association has also requested the Chairman FBR to promptly implement Board's order for the posting of Inland Revenue Audit Officers as Unit Incharge as per Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, Sales Tax Act, 1990 and Federal Excise Act, 2005. In some RTOs/LTUs Board's order is still not implemented in its true letter and spirit. This has created disparity among the Inland Revenue Audit Officers across the country, the association added.
