The new Managing Director Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) Rasool Khan Mehsud said on Wednesday that he can only assure reduction in load shedding and not a complete ending to it. He was addressing a press conference at the Wapda House. Mehsud said independence to the power distribution companies, besides taking the Pepco out of deficit, was on the cards.
However, he made clear that no employee would be shunted out during the process. He further said salary packages of Pepco employees would be revised. Only the present Chief Executives of power distribution companies would be relieved once new board of directors is in place, he said.
He expressed the hope that another 1000MW would be added to the system by December this year. According to him, the Pepco would not increase power tariff if power generation companies are provided with full quota of gas distribution. Mehsud further said foreign investors would be allured by overcoming the line losses. According to him, the government was responsible for availing a consensus on construction of Kala Bagh Dam.
