The Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Wednesday adjourned the hearing for November 01 in a petition of Pakistani Ambassador to US, Hussain Haqqani, as investigation officer (IO) of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in NAB cases against Haqani could not appear before the court.
The ambassador has filed petition against inclusion of his name in the list of NRO beneficiaries. A division bench headed by Chief Justice Kh. Muhammad Sharif was hearing the petition in which he claimed that his name had been wrongly put in the list of NRO beneficiaries by the NAB authorities.
The bench on previous hearing directed FIA investigator Khalid Mehmood who has been investigating references of NAB against Haqqani to appear in person before the court on the next date of hearing. During previous hearing, the NAB submitted record of its investigations against Haqqani on the basis of which he was later exonerated in the case registered in 1997.
The court was told that a case of irregularities in grant of licenses to a cable TV network was investigated by NAB against Hussain Haqqani, and Benazir Bhutto but due to death of Benazir the case against her was abated. NAB's legal expert said the investigation was initiated prior to 12 October 1999 by NAB, which after promulgation of NRO in 2007 stood terminated against Hussain Haqqani with immediate effect.
