All GPOs to have Counter Automation System

Ministry of Postal Services (MoPS) would expand its Counter Automation System (CAS) to all General Post Offices (GPOs) of the country. An official of Postal Ministry told newsmen on Wednesday that CAS aimed at computerising the Post Office counter. He said it provided state-of-the-art point of sale terminals, which could handle all the counter operations and ensures integrated service provision at each counter.
"Recent years witnessed the phenomenal growth of courier services and market economies prized competition, efficiency and productivity", he said. He said that customer needs became supreme and courier services initiated designing specialised products for different segments of customers.
He said that postal administrations were no longer able to shield behind state monopolies and their turf was open for competition and couriers managed to claim vital chunks of their businesses. Postal administrations realising the change rose to the occasion and focused on customer a fresh.
He said Pakistan Post had launched an array of customer oriented products and services and were able to reclaim some of their revenues lost to courier services in the country. "Pakistan Post keeping with the imperatives of market forces introduced new products to respond to customer needs for a faster, efficient and cost effective message services", he added.
