Acting Vice Chancellor of Punjab University, Professor Dr Jamil Anwar Chaudhry will preside over the inaugural session of the three-day international conference on "Education in Pakistan: Issues, Challenges & Reforms" which will begin on Thursday (today) in the auditorium of Dr Pervaiz Hasan Environmental Law Centre of Law College, New Campus Lahore.
Mian Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman, Punjab Education Minister will be the chief guest on the concluding session of the conference on October 23. Dr Mujahid Kamran, Sartaj Aziz, Vice-Chancellor Beaconhouse National University, Dr Mahmood ul Hassan Butt, Chief Party, Pre-STEP, Pakistan and Dr Hassan Sohaib Murad, Rector UMT will be the key note speakers in the plenary sessions. In addition, senior journalist Mujeeb ur Rehman Shami, Dr Muhammad Memon AKU-IED Karachi, Dr Rasul Bux Rais of LUMS, Dr Shahid Siddiqi Lahore School of Economics Lahore, Arif Majeed JEA curriculum wing Ministry of Education Islamabad, Dr Khalid Iqbal would chair different session of the conference.
The Faculty of Education at the Punjab University has so far received about 140 abstracts from national and international resource persons for the conference. After the review, 80 abstracts were accepted for oral and 10 for poster presentations. In the conference, about 80 resource persons are going to present their papers and there will be five poster presentations. Among these eighty persons, seven papers presenters are from abroad while rest of the paper presenters belong to different universities of Pakistan. Overall 22 sessions are going to be organised during this three-day conference on different themes.
