Russian company director explains satellite TV system to BoI chief

A delegation, led by Director and Development Manager from Foreign Broadcasting Projects Department of General Satellite Corporation, Russia, Dolgopolskiy Sergey and Korenevskiy Artem, called on Saleem H Mandviwalla, Chairman of the Board of Investment here on Wednesday.
The General Satellite presented details about the satellite TV operator (DTH) in Pakistan and switching of Pakistani terrestrial TV broadcasting to digital format. Dolgopolskiy Sergey said that DTH would be a providing satellite equipment to reach advanced sources of information. Pakistan is the most appropriate country because there is no DTH satellite channel in Pakistan.
It is a fact that a large proportion of Pakistan's population still does not have access to TV broadcasting and such projects can ensure the availability of modern television even in the most remote communities. The company is interested about information on any upcoming licences bidding/tendering for satellite television operators, criteria/process of obtaining a licence for a foreign company, any possible JV with existing channel operators in Pakistan and policy guidelines for such investment.
About the meeting with PTV MD, they said that they are ready to invest 50 percent for their project in joint ventures, and there is a possibility of establishing an assembly unit in Pakistan for the receiver box, which will not only provide employment but also save cost.
