Sindh government on Thursday mapped-out strategy to launch a search operation against criminals, in parts of the city, officials said. As the provincial authorities were busy chalking out plans to comb criminals, six more people lost their lives in the ongoing spree of target killings, raising the death toll to 87 in 5 days.
Officials in Sindh Home Department told Business Recorder that a high level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza to review prevailing law and order situation in the city. Home Secretary, CCPO Karachi and DIGs of three zones also attended the meeting. They said the meeting decided to launch 'house-to-house' search against the criminal elements in some parts of the city. The meeting mapped out the area of search operation and chalked out strategy to materialise this plan, they added.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Karachi Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari briefed the meeting about current law and order situation and steps taken to maintain peace in the city. DIGs of all the three zones briefed the participants about some troubled areas in their respective jurisdictions and identified certain sites for planned search operation.
Meanwhile, 6 more people were killed in ongoing spate of targetted killings in different parts of the city on Thursday. Incidents of violence took place in Hijrat Colony, Dastgir, Sohrab Goth, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Yousuf Plaza. A bullet-riddled boy was also found in the limits of Docks police station. A 45-year-old police constable was killed during an alleged encounter with armed men in Hijrat Colony within Artillery Maidan police station. However, armed men managed to flee. A youth was gunned down near Dastgir No 9 in the jurisdictions of Jauharabad police station. The victim was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem where he was identified as Muhammad Arsalan, 20, son of Muhammad Nadeem.
In another incident, a 30-year-old man was gunned down near Al-Asif Square, Sohrab Goth by armed men. He was identified as Mir Nawaz son of Zulfiqar. Another youth was killed by armed assailants near Kamran Chowrangi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar. He was identified as Asad, 20, son of Baz Ahmed. In the wee hours Thursday, armed assailants opened fire on a rickshaw driver near Yousuf Plaza. Resultantly, the rickshaw driver died on the spot. However, the victim is yet to be identified. Docks police claimed to have recovered a tortured mark, bullet-riddled body of a youth. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi. However, the victim could not be identified till our going to press.
