Vice Chancellor, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Professor Dr Muhammad Nawaz has urged biotechnologists to play their role in increasing production of milk, meat and crops by using modern application of biotechnology. As many as 2000 students from 30 education intuitions were getting education of biotechnology and biochemistry but they had no biotechnology park in Pakistan, said Dr Nawaz.
He added that it was matter of great honour that the UVAS successfully launched Lahore Biotechnology Park (LBP). He explained that such move was made with the collaboration of Dr Kauser Abdullah Malik, Pervaiz Sufi and other colleagues of pharmaceutical industries.
He was speaking at concluding ceremony of National Biotechnology Exhibition and Seminar 2010 held on Thursday at conference hall organised by UVAS institute of biochemistry and biotechnology (IBBT) in collaboration with Higher Education Commission. Dean Faculty of Life Sciences, Professor Dr Ijaz Ahmad, Director IBBT, Professor Dr Masroor Elahi Baber, Chief Executive Invitro Vogue (IV), Dr Kauser Abdullah Malik also spoke at the seminar.
Dr Nawaz said that UVAS had expertise in the field of vaccine production. Commenting on the LBP, Dr Nawaz said that UVAS was connecting various institutions and foreign experts to execute the project of LBP. He said that the concept of biotechnology was unique and it should be implemented to explore the new horizon of research and development to boost the local industry and contribute to the national kitty.
