Southern Punjab Development Programme reviewed: 'steps being taken towards rural uplift, alleviation of poverty'

Senior Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab Sirdar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa said the government was taking measures for the development of far-flung and remote areas of the province as well as poverty alleviation and for the attainment of objectives of economic development.
In order to improve the means of transportation, road network was being improved in far-flung areas so that masses could get ample opportunities of economic development while the government has chalked out a comprehensive plan to achieve the targets, he said. He said that elected representatives have been assigned the task of identifying the development schemes in their representative constituencies for uplift of socio-economic status of the people concerned.
He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting to review the pace of implementation on developmental projects in southern Punjab districts under Southern Punjab Development Programme (SPDP). The meeting was attended by Commissioner & DCO DG Khan, high ranking officials of health, Education, C&W, Housing, Local Government, Nespak, P&D, Finance, Local Government besides project directors.
Sirdar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa said that development schemes in DG Khan under SPDP were being completed at a cost of Rs 443 million for provincial highways, Rs 476 million for education, health and local road networks, Rs 70 million for gymnasium, Rs 77 million for art council auditorium, Rs 387 million for up gradation of DHQ, Rs 87 million for trauma center, Rs 1 billion for DG Khan Medical College, Rs 500 million for water supply scheme, Rs 605 million for urban sewerage scheme, Rs 14.6 million for Mian Nawaz Sharif Park, Rs 55.6 million for Degree College for Women at Kot Chutta, Rs 72.7 million for establishment of DHQ Hospital at Khar Fort Munro were being spent. The ongoing developmental projects should be completed within the stipulated period and funds should also be released in time for the uplift schemes in under developed areas of the southern Punjab districts under SPDP, he directed.
