Taiwan stocks rose 0.45 percent on Friday, with electronics parts suppliers including Wintek Corp and Largan Precision outperforming as they ride robust demand for smartphones. The main TAIEX share index closed up 36.83 points at 8,168.06, while the index ended the week with a 0.5 percent fall.
Wintek, a supplier of touch panels for mobile phones and the market's most active stock by turnover, shot up 4.17 percent. It had fallen the previous day after saying it might sue a J.P. Morgan analyst over a research report. Largan rose 1.81 percent after a report the optical lens maker's fourth-quarter sales could hit a new record high. Foreign investors bought T$991 million ($32 million) of Taiwan stocks on Thursday, ending a three-day selling streak. They have bought T$464 million of local shares this month.
