Asma Jahangir, ex-chairperson Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) on Wednesday won the elections for President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for 2010-11 from Karachi. She had got 114 votes out of total 228 votes. Ahmad Awais, candidate of Hamid Khan-led Professional Group, stood second with 104 votes while Chaudhry Ikram secured the third spot for the presidency with only 07 votes from Karachi region.
Ali Muhammad Dehri, Presiding Officer (PO), Karachi told Business Recorder that there were total 338 voters from Karachi. Among them, 228 people have cast their votes and three ballot-papers could not be dropped in the box, he said.
However, Rana Farman Ali Sabir has successfully won the elections for General Secretary (GS) of SCBA from Karachi. He had got 96 votes. Qamar Zaman Qureshi was the runner-up with 69 votes while Muhammad Sohail Dar 29 and Malik Munsif Awan clinched 20 votes for next GS of SCBA from Karachi.
On the other hand, K A Wahab has successfully won the polling for Vice President (VP) Sindh, Jahanzaib Khan Jadoon VP Balochistan, Abdus Sadiq VP Punjab and Malik Manzoor VP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Karachi-Circle. K A Wahab won for VP Sindh from Karachi with 119 votes. Shafaat Hussain got 60 votes, Shamsuddin Khalid 22 votes and Syed Jamil Ahmed had 18 votes from Karachi. Jahanzaib Khan Jadoon won elections for VP Balochistan from Karachi with 99 votes. Muhammad Mohsin secured second spot from Karachi.
Malik Muhammad Manzoor has won election for VP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Karachi with total 94 votes. Muhammad Arif stood second with 84 votes. Like this, Abdus Sadiq remained successful for VP Punjab from Karachi with 68 votes. Malik Muhammad Imtiaz was second with 29 votes, Zubair Khalid 26 and Muhammad Talib Rana could get only 22 votes for VP Punjab from Karachi.
Mohammad Saliheen Mughal also won elections for one seat of Additional Secretary, SCBA from Karachi. She got 108 votes. However, Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhutta remained runner-up with 60 votes in the competition from Karachi. While, Sanaullah Khan Zahid has already been elected unopposed as Finance Secretary of the SCBA. Moreover, Taj Muhammad Mengal won elections for Executive Committee (EC) member from Balochistan from Karachi-Chapter. Khan Afzal Khan won for EC member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Tabinda Islam EC member Punjab and Abbas Ali EC member Sindh of SCBA for the term 2010-11 from Karachi region.
Taj Muhammad Mengal won elections for executive member SCBA, Balochistan from Karachi with 114 votes. Abdullah Kakar stood second with 105 votes, Syed Akhtar Muhammad 95 votes, Malik Azmatullah Khan Kasi 26 votes, Iqbal Shah 20 votes, Muhammad Hassan Bilal 18 votes and Jaffar Khan got only 14 votes.
Like this, Khan Afzal Khan elected member executive SCBA, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 113 votes. Noor Alam Khan remained second with 99 votes, Muhammad Habib Qureshi 76 and Tanveer Ahmed bagged 76 votes.
Beside this, Tabinda Islam won election for executive member SCBA, Punjab from Karachi. She got 86 votes. Hamid Shabbir Azar got 85 votes, Khalid Mehmood Sheikh 73 votes, Rafaqat Ali 66 votes, Mian Muhammad Javed 59, Muhammad Aslam Ghuman 58, Dr C. M. Afzal and Muhammad Salman Bhatti 55 votes, Waseem Mumtaz Malik 54, Muhammad Younus Khan 50, Nadeem Siddiqui 48, Muhammad Saad Shibbi 46 and Chaudhry Muhammad Ikram Zahid got only 36 votes for executive member SCBA, Punjab from Karachi.
Furthermore, Abbas Ali won the election for executive member SCBA, Sindh from Karachi. He had got 132 votes. Muhammad Ishaq was second with 108 votes, Zia Ahmed Awan 104 votes, Haji Shafi Muhammad 98 votes, Shakeel Ahmed 69, Ghulam Shabbir Shar 56 votes, Sardar Akbar 41, Jamil Ahmed 31 and Sardar M Aijaz Khan got only 25 votes for member SCBA from Karachi.
