'Pakistan Square' to be set up in Santiago

The Las Condes Municipality of Santiago, Chile has formally conveyed its concurrence on October 22, 2010 for setting up a "Pakistan Square" in Santiago on reciprocal basis without any financial implications. Capital Development Authority of (CDA) had earlier allocated a space for a "Chile Square" at F/10 Khayan-e-Iqbal.
A formal approval of the Prime Minister of Pakistan on reciprocal arrangement will be processed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shortly. These Squares will work as a symbol of friendship and develop awareness among the people of both the countries.
The Mayor of Las Condes, in a letter addressed to Pakistani Ambassador in Santiago, Burhanul Islam, conveyed the decision about Pakistan Square, stating that the initiative would help promoting friendly relations between Pakistan and Chile. The Embassy would shortly install a plaque on the site allocated at the intersection of Alonso de Cordova Avenue and Lon Militares in the prosperous financial district of Santiago. There is also a proposal for installing a replica of Minar-e-Pakistan with support from the Pakistani community in Chile.
The Pakistan Embassy in Santiago had initiated the proposal for setting up Squares in the two capitals on reciprocal basis without any cost.-PR
