SIE Owners' Front stages protest

Less than a dozen members of the Sundar Industrial Estate (SIE) Owners Front on Thursday staged a protest in front of Lahore Press Club against the Punjab Industrial Estate Development and Management Company (PIE) management. The Front's General Secretary Samiullah Durrani led the protest that chanted slogans against the PIE Chairman S. M. Tanveer and Chief Executive Officer Tariq Javed and demanded their immediate arrest on account of alleged embezzlement.
The participants also demanded of the government to put their names on the exit control list. Talking to newsmen, Durrani said the PIE Management had purchased 1600 acres of land for development of Sundar Industrial Estate at a total cost of Rs 450 million. The management generated an amount of Rs 4.5 billion by selling developed plots at a cost of Rs 3 million per acre.
The PIE Management has spent only Rs 1.5 billion on infrastructure development, while remaining amount of Rs 3 billion was misappropriated. He alleged that both the top officials were involved in embezzlement and urged the government to hold them accountable for financial irregularities.
