Sindh to set up ''AEPZs'' in seven districts

The Sindh government is going to set up Agro-Export Processing Zones (AEPZs) in seven districts of the province, it is learnt. Officials in Sindh Agriculture Department told Business Recorder that the provincial government has decided to set up these zones to send high quality fruits, vegetable, seeds and flowers to the international markets.
The purpose of setting up of these AEPZs is to ensure that local agricultural produce reach the international markets properly, they added. "According to the proposed scheme, fruits, vegetables and flowers would be brought in the zones and from where these would be sent to the international markets, they said, adding that the scheme would provide relief to farmers in terms of high payments. Farmers will also become a source of foreign exchange earning for the exchequer," they added.
They said in Karachi, the AEPZ would be set up at Super Highway and the provincial department has requested for appointment of drawing and disbursing officers for the zone. Initially, the quality agriculture produce would be processed in these zones and sent to the foreign markets after international standard packaging, they said.
