'Supreme Court interim order recognises institutional jurisdiction'

A meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms was held on Monday at Parliament House, under the chairmanship of Senator Mian Raza Rabbani. Immediately after the announcement of the interim order by the Supreme Court, in the petitions challenging certain amendments enacted in the Constitution through the 18th Constitutional (Amendment) Act, 2010, on October 21, 2010, a meeting of the committee was called for November 1, 2010.
A verbal reference was made by the Chairman of the Committee to the Speaker of the National Assembly as to the status of the PCCR. The Speaker observed that the committee continues to function. The meeting reviewed and examined in detail the order passed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The meeting was of the view that the order was a step forward in recognising and respecting institutional jurisdiction and considered it a positive way forward in giving effect to the concept of trichotomy of functions envisaged in the Constitution.-PR
