Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif Monday held consultation with a group of intellectuals representing civil society on the objectives and salient features of his proposed 'Charter of Pakistan'.
Led by Secretary SAFMA Imtiaz Alam, the delegation comprising Arif Nizami, Munnoo Bhai, Talat Masood, Irfan Siddiqui, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami, Iftikhar Ahmed, Abbas Rashid, Shireen Pasha, Zia Uddin and others, exchanged views with the PML-N leader over challenges posed to the country and it was resolved to strengthen democracy.
Talking to the delegation members, Nawaz said that root cause of terrorism is dictatorship and need of the hour is to achieve national consensus to face challenges. "We are striving for establishing a prosperous society by getting rid off dependence on others," he said.
The PML-N leader said he intends to create national consensus to make a self-reliant Pakistani nation which could only focus on its own resources and potential instead of looking for others. This is only possible in a peaceful atmosphere, as it would provide economic opportunities to everyone, he said. "If we cannot guarantee job opportunities, education, health, peaceful and secure future, how can we ask for more sacrifices from people," he questioned? He said that spirit of Pakistan movement is needed to get rid of present problems. He also advocated for long-term and short-term national agenda to steer the country out of prevailing crises. "Every party, institution and segment of society would have to prefer national interests setting aside personal gains," he asserted.
