Another blast occurs at railway track

03 Nov, 2010

A disaster was averted when a bomb exploded on a railway track four kilometres off Hyderabad Railway Station minutes before Zakariya Express was to run through there here on Tuesday morning. According to details, some outlaws had planted bombs on either sides of the main railway line, over a kilometre away from Detha Station where Zakariya Express was taking a brief halt.
However, only one of the devices planted on the down-track detonated, while the other on the up-track did not explode. No loss of life or injury happened due to the explosion whose sound resonated through long distances. Railway authorities, Police and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) rushed to the scene where the BDS de-activated the explosive, which had failed to go off. An official of Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) told APP that both of the bombs, which according to him were Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) fixed with a timer, weighed slightly over 500 grams. The device, which went off destroyed more than two feet part of the track.
It was the second successive incident in Hyderabad in a span of around 20 hours, as on Monday four IEDs had exploded on the railway line in Sehrish Nagar near Hussainabad. A FIR has been registered at PS Rahooki against unknown persons. Pakistan Railways managed to repair the damaged part of the track and restored the train traffic after four hours.
