Former Justice Chaudhry Ijaz nominated as JC member

The Chief Justice of Pakistan/Chairman Judicial Commission of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Wednesday in consultation with two senior most judges of the Supreme Court has nominated Justice retired Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmed as member of the Commission.
Justice Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmed, former Judge, Supreme Court, would serve as Member of Judicial Commission for a term of 2 years under Article 175A. The nomination came after Justice Ali Hussain Qazilbash, former Judge of the apex Court, had resigned as Member of Judicial Commission, by stating his inability to undertake assignment due to health condition.
The nomination has been made as the JC is set to hold its first ever meeting on November 6 to formally initiate a process for making appointments of judges of superior judiciary as envisaged in the 18th Amendment. The Judicial Commission headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan/chairman and having two senior most judges of the apex Court, one retired judge, the attorney general for Pakistan, Law minister and a senior member of Pakistan Bar Council, as members would hold meetings for making appointments.
