EPD initiates environmental awareness programme

The Environment Protection Department (EPD) has initiated an environmental awareness programme under a scheme 'Sensitisation of public through environmental education'. The basic environmental education amongst the youth can help out in bringing behavioural and attitudinal changes to bring forward an environmentally conscious generation, observed EPD's spokesman here on Thursday.
She said during 2008-2009, the EPD established environmental clubs in public sector schools in the following districts: Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahalwalpur, Gujranwala, Gujrat and Rawalpindi. The co-ordinating teachers and club members were provided with informatory material to develop basic understanding of environmental issues, problems and measures with objective to built-in good environmental practices in youth.
The team of Environmental Awareness has started visiting different schools in Lahore having already Environmental Clubs. The core objective of this visit is creating awareness about the conservation of various components of environment. During the visit, the team delivers a lecture and organises awareness activities among the students of various classes. Four schools has been visited by EPD team in Lahore so far, including Government Boys Model High School in Model Town, Government Boys High School in Cantonment, Government Boys High School in Kot Lakhpat and Government Sheikh Sardar Girls Higher Secondary School.
