The students of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) organised a panel discussion on women's rights. The panellists included noted scholar Dr Sabiha Qadri, well-known social worker Musarrat Misbah, and anchorperson Hina Bayat. Uzma Al-Karim was the moderator, says an announcement of the institution on Thursday.
It said dialogues unfolded issues relevant to Women's rights violations taking place in our society. The objective was also to create awareness regarding about such practices. Dr Sabiha Qadri said, "Islam is a religion that empowers women, protects them and safeguard their rights." She supported her views with the references to Holy Quran and Ahadith, and also cited the instance of violation of women's rights in the society.
She was of the view that if voice was not raised against such practices in the first instance, it increased the likelihood of the re-occurrences. Her views to this effect were also seconded by other panellists as well. National Badminton star, Palwasha Bashir, marked her presence who is a source of inspiration for our young women and signifies that this nation has such exemplary women as well, the statement added.
