Abdul Nasir Taimoori: SKAA identifies 92 new slums

A total number of Katchi Abadis has now surged to 1385 as Sindh Katchi Abadis Authority (SKAA) has identified more 92 slums established during last two years across the province. According to official data available the total number of Katchi Abadis (KA) was 1293 till June 2008. SKAA authorities identified further 5 Katchi Abadis in Karachi, 84 in Hyderabad, and 3 Abadis in Sukkur divisions.
The Karachi division previously had 539 KA which reached to 544 now, Hyderabad division with the addition of 84 Abadis reached from 331 to 415 while the Sukkur Division with the increase of 3 Abadis rose from 170 to 173 Abadis.
It is pertinent to mention that the cut-off-date for regularisation of Katchi Abadis was fixed up till March 23, 1983 according to the SKA Act in 1987. The Sindh Katchi Abadi Authority was established in 1987 according to the Act. Katchi Abadi is an unauthorised settlement formed by illegal occupation on vacant urban land.
