The Lahore High Court on Wednesday sought reply from Higher Education Commission (HEC) and directed its chairman to depute a representative of the commission to appear before the court on December 02.
The petition was filed by Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffrey who challenged mushroom growth of fake universities and other educational institutions and sought courts' directions for government to close all the bogus and unrecognised universities/institutions. He said that scores of bogus and ghost institutions had been functioning in Pakistan unchecked. He said these educational institutions, in fact, were playing havoc with the careers of youth. He pointed out that the government had no mechanism to check private colleges and universities as they were minting money from students providing nothing in return.
