October trade deficit at $1.23 billion

Pakistan''s trade deficit narrowed to $1.23 billion in October from $1.39 billion in October last year, the Federal Bureau of Statistics said. The trade deficit in September this year was $1.16 billion. Exports stood at $1.98 billion in October this year, against $1.57 billion a year ago, according to the bureau''s data posted on its website late Thursday.
Imports were worth $3.22 billion, compared with $2.97 billion in October last year. The country''s trade deficit for the first four months of the 2010/11 fiscal year was $5.1 billion compared with $4.54 billion in the year-ago period.
