Essential commodities: 'government striving to ensure availability at fixed rates'

Member National Assembly (MNA) of Pakistan People's Party, Faryal Talpur has said that government is making all out efforts to provide essential commodities at fixed rates to the people. This she said while addressing a dinner hosted in her honour by President Larkana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Khair Muhammad Shaikh at a local hotel, late on Friday night.
Ms Talpur said "Sunday Bachat Bazaar" will be held in Larkana and Naudero, wherein essential commodities will be provided to common man on fixed prices, while severe action will be taken against hoarders and black marketers. She said the remaining portion of circular road project and other roads, under Larkana development package, will soon be completed. She informed that in this regard, she has held a meeting with Chairman National Highway Authority. She added that road from Moen jo Daro Airport to Lakhi Ghulam Shah via Larkana-Naudero, Road from Larkana to Nasirabad Road from Larkana to Kamber and other roads will be completed under the package.
Also, drainage system in Larkana will be improved by initiating work at cost of rupees 30 crore (300 million), already approved under supervision of Sindh North Urban Services Corporation, Larkana.
The MNA observed that Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Library Larkana is an old library and will be utilised only for study purposes so that educated youths take benefit from it. She said Sambara Inn will be upgraded to a four-star hotel status so that the dignitaries visiting Larkana realise that there is a hotel of international standard in the city. She mentioned that government has provided an amount of rupees 20 lac (0.20 million) for construction of office of Larkana Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Ms Talpur noted that the law and order situation in the city has improved. Children Mela on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha was also organised in Larkana, in which a large number of ladies and children participated, showing sign of peaceful atmosphere.
She further said government is taking interest to promote agriculture and in this regard, 25 acre of government land is being allotted to women farmers. Also, Benazir Income Support Programme has been started in order to uplift status of women. She added that the programme is appreciated at international level, though some complains, regarding Watan Cards, are being addressed while Nadra has been directed to prepare Watan Cards of flood affectees people in a transparent manner.
The MNA said Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto rendered sacrifice of her life only for the rights of downtrodden people and restoration of democracy in the country. She appreciated efforts of Chamber of Commerce and Industry Larkana that in hard times, they helped the flood victims, which is the social services and well to do people of the society played their role during the catastrophe.
She pointed that government played its role and provided relief and rescue to the flood victims and all ministers, speaker Sindh Assembly, MPAs, MNAs, senators were duty-bound to monitor flood situation in their respective areas. Whatever required, such as including heavy machinery, food-stuff, was provided to the flood victims through local administration.
Ms Talpur urged upon PPP leaders and workers to be united and strengthen the party so that the political opponents do not succeed in any conspiracy against them. Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Sindh Assembly, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said PPP government has passed 18th amendment from the parliament and 1973 constitution was restored in its original position.
He said that roads are being constructed in Larkana, while job opportunities are being provided to educated youths. Khuhro further said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical University Larkana, Engineering College, Industrial Estate are being established in the city. He added that 70 percent of people depend on agriculture and to boost this sector, crops included wheat, paddy, sugarcane, and cotton are being produced in large quantity.
Government is providing fertilisers and seeds to the Abadgars for Rabi Crop in flood-affected areas. He added that Pakistan is self sufficient in this regard and exporting these commodities in order to earn foreign exchange. Speaker Sindh provincial assembly said federal provincial governments are striving hard to establish power plants at Thar for coal and through this, job opportunities will also be provided to the people.
Concluding, he said the soil of Larkana is the land of martyrs Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto because they rendered great sacrifices for the downtrodden people, so they are given rights and basic facilities are available at their doorsteps.
Khuhro said that under the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari started political reconciliation and transferred his powers to the parliament so that parliament system is strengthened in the country.
Expressing his views, Sindh Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Muhammad Ayaz Soomro said Chamber of Commerce and Industry Larkana always stood by PPP and their support is necessary to provide positive results in strengthening the party in the city. He said some undemocratic elements are conspiring against the democratic government, but they will not succeed at any cost and government will complete tenure of five years.
The minister said an amount of rupees four billion is being spent by government of Sindh to complete different development schemes in Larkana during the current financial year, adding that with completion of these, Larkana city will look beautiful. He recalled that on the directives of President of Pakistan, 26,000 sacked employees were reinstated in federal government department, while Sindh government will also reinstate 1,100 sacked employees in different departments. He added that a bill in this regard will also be tabled in Sindh Assembly.
He hoped that after the completion of tenure of PPP government, people will again vote them and thus support vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. Earlier, President Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Larkana Khair Muhammad Shaikh welcomed Faryal Talpur and other guests and highlighted in detail the problems of the people, as well as performance of the chamber.
The dinner was largely attended by MNAs Nazir Ahmed Bughio, Ramesh Lal, MPA Haji Munawar Ali Abbasi, Ghulam Mujadid Isran, party leaders including Ghulam Mujtaba Isran, Hizbullah Bhugio, DCO Larkana Abdul Aleem Lashari, DPO Larkana Irfan Baloch, Hafiz Suleman Shaikh, Masood Ahmed Shaikh, Tariq Nazir Shaikh, Vice Chancellor SMBBMU Larkana Professor Sikander Ali Shaikh, members of Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Taluka president and general secretaries of PPP Larkana and Kamber-Shahdadkot districts.
