Development projects: strict action against corrupt elements directed

Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif has said that government officials failing to pursue legal proceedings against the elements involved in corruption in development projects, would be considered equally guilty. He was presiding over a high-level administrative meeting after laying foundation stone and inaugurating various development projects in Dera Ghazi Khan (DG Khan) on Saturday, revealed an information of DGPR.
Shahbaz announced initiation of development projects worth more than two billion rupees for DG Khan including construction of medical college building, setting up of Danish Schools for boys and girls, construction of city roads and bridges and establishment of government degree college in Choti.
Speaking on the occasion, he said shortage of funds will not be allowed to become a hurdle in timely completion of development projects in the district, while uplift schemes interrupted due to floods will be completed expeditiously. He directed chairman planning & development and secretary finance to reach DG Khan for improving conditions regarding funds.
The CM directed CMIT to reach DG Khan within four days along-with qualified engineers to inspect water supply and drainage scheme for detecting alleged corruption in the ongoing development projects worth rupees one billion. He said no payment should be made without a third party checking performance of development projects.
He also directed commissioner DG Khan to select a suitable piece of land within two weeks for shifting vegetable market outside the city. He gave approval for setting up of a degree college in Choti Zairin and construction of the road from Chokiwala to Zain.
Shahbaz also announced repair and widening of 2.5km-long road from Chowk Choorhata to intermediate board. He announced provision of rupees 18 million for construction of Pul Dat Chowk and ordered immediate starting of the project. He also issued instructions for appointing a heart specialist in DHQ hospital within 72 hours, besides floating tenders for early construction of a medical college in the district.
During a briefing given by RPO Ahmad Mubarak Ahmad, the CM directed to activate peace committees in actual sense and keep police force fully alert during Muharam-ul-Haram. He directed that strict action should be taken against the elements involved in provocative wall-chalking. He also announced increasing strength of police force in DG Khan, terming it the meeting point of all the four provinces for ensuring law and order.
On the occasion, he laid foundation stone of paramedical institute and hostel, to be completed within a period of one year and three month at a cost of rupees 40 million. He also inaugurated Nawaz Sharif Park, completed at a cost of rupees 17 million and Chowk Choorhata constructed at a sum of about rupees 12 million. Senior Advisor Sirdar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Members National and Provincial Assembly, Muslim League office-bearers and administrative officers were present on the occasion.
