Amendment to blasphemy law to lead to social unrest: Shujaat

24 Nov, 2010

Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) President, Senator Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain has criticised the efforts being made to release Asia Bibi, warning that any effort to amend blasphemy law would lead to social unrest. He said Muslims consider their affection with Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) as prime when compared with other relations in life.
He further said foreign hands are active behind the pressure to pardon blasphemy sentence and feared severe consequences in case the government grants this. He averred that no law could revoke the sentence under blasphemy law. Shujaat pointed out that Asia Bibi has admitted her crime, therefore, any effort to get her released is equal to a sin. He added that the liberal circles have forgotten this while mixing religious matters with social issues. He also said Christianity never supported blasphemy and every religion respects the opponents' religion.
