An election tribunal headed by a judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday while hearing a petition challenging election of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Shaukat Manzoor Cheema from PP-104 Gujranwala on the basis of bogus BA degree summoned the registrar Islamia University, Bahawalpur for November 27.
Ijaz Ahmad Samma a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate who lost election against Cheema moved this petition. Petitioner counsel Barrister Danyal Ijaz Chaddar alleged that the MPA had been found guilty of impersonation while taking BA annual examination of Islamia University Bahawalpur.
He said a criminal case had already been lodged against MPA and he had been disqualified for three years. Therefore, suffered pre-election disqualification. He requested that Cheema should be declared disqualified to hold the seat in assembly on the basis of possessing fake degree.
