Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran has stated that in today's age of globalisation acquisition of knowledge and promotion of education is a must for any nation to achieve socio-economic and political supremacy as well as for its honourable and dignified survival in comity of nations.
He was addressing participants of a ceremony, which was held to launch the books of Dr Zaheer Ahmad Siddiqi, and Dr Muhammad Qayyum titled "Iran Jan-e-Pakistan" and "Analytical and Comparative Study of Urdu Persian" organised by the Iranian Consulate in collaboration with the Punjab University at its Main Library here on Tuesday.
The Vice-Chancellor said that the world sole super-power is persistently focusing on the region comprising Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan due to its strategic geographical location and rich mineral resources. He said the country, which will control this region, will ultimately exercise superiority over the entire Euro-Asia continent. He said the American establishment has raised the bogy of terrorism to perpetuate its occupation of this region of key importance. Not only durable peace and security will be restored to Afghanistan and Pakistan but they will also make rapid socio-economic progress once the US forces evacuate the area, he added.
He said Iran and Pakistan enjoy close brotherly cultural, religious, spiritual, historical and literary bonds of abiding friendship, which spread over past many centuries. 65 percent of Urdu language words come from the Persian language while world reputed Iranian poets and literary giants have made deep impact on diction and thoughts of leading Urdu poets and authors.
Speaking on the occasion DG Iranian consulate Abbas Famori observed that co-operation between the Punjab and Tehran universities in joint publication of Urdu and Persian books would further strengthen their academic and research relations. He also paid rich tributes to the Vice-Chancellor for the liberal assistance and patronage extended by him to organise the books exhibition and books launching ceremony.
