Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation (DGI&I)-FBR, Karachi has seized around 267,000 liters of diesel worth over Rs 19.38 million during July 2010 to October 2010 period. According to provisional statistics made available to Business Recorder on Tuesday revealed that the Karachi Directorate has initiated strict vigilance to restrain contraband goods to reach local markets.
During the said exercise, the DGI&I has therefore, established 24 anti smuggling cases worth over Rs 135.43 million, which depicted 200 percent increase, as compared to the seizures made in the last fiscal period. The statistics further said that the Directorate has confiscated some 62 duty unpaid vehicles worth Rs 102.27 million during the said fiscal period. However, the preceding fiscal period had shown only 14 seizures in this connection. In the same way, the department has also detained some 3124 kgs of contraband tea during ongoing fiscal period, which is 130 percent higher, as compared to the last fiscal figure.
Moreover, it said the Directorate has additionally seized huge quantity of other contraband goods including mobil oil 2372 kgs, betel nuts 49821kgs, tyres and tubes 219 pieces, auto spare parts 28 pieces and heroin 1280 kgs during said fiscal period.
