24 Nov, 2010

Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) has convened an urgent meeting of its district organisations on Wednesday to chalk out a schedule of protests against enforcement of Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) on agricultural inputs, delay in sugarcane crushing season, high prices of different utilities and raise in the prices of fertilisers.
Vice President KBP Punjab Manzoor Ahmad Gujjar will preside over this meeting which will be held at Manawan which will be participated by the office-bearers of district organisations of Central Punjab, said Haji Muhammad Ramzan Central Secretary Information KBP. Meanwhile, KBP Central President Sardar Zafar Hussein and General Secretary Malik Muhammad Ramzan in a joint statement strongly criticised the sugar millers for not paying the dues of the growers and delaying the sugarcane-crushing season this year.
They also criticised that the fertiliser prices had been increased right at the time of wheat sowing while WAPDA and other utilities had also enhanced their tariff. They claimed that growers were closing their tubewells due to expensive electricity. Similarly they said that RGST on agricultural inputs especially on pesticides would hit the agricultural sector very hard. They said this situation call for staging protest against the rulers and the Board would chalk out a protest schedule in its meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
