Our railways like many other government-owned and operated enterprises, is in dire straits. In India, the Indian railways was also running in loss until Lalu Prasad Yadev became the minister for railways and he turned the loss-making entity into a profitable enterprise.
Therein lies a lesson for us. Instead of asking the SBP governor to revamp railways, we must find someone like Lalu Prasad Yadev to turn the railways around. If there is none to be found in Pakistan, we must request India to loan us Yadev to help us revive our railways. We dream and conjure about linking Islamabad with Istanbul thru rail network, but our own backyard is in shambles. Day dreaming will not take us anywhere.
