Late coming of doctors irk patients

25 Nov, 2010

Patients in Sindh Government Hospital, Saudabad, Malir are facing severe problems due to late coming of doctors in OPDs. They said patients have to wait long in OPDs for doctors, as their late coming is becoming a routine matter.
They said frequent visits of representatives of pharmaceuticals companies during OPD timings is yet another problem faced by the patients as they have to wait in long queues to see doctor for their checkup.
It was said that the scheduled timing of doctors to arrive at hospital is 9:00am but many of them often reach hospital very late. Moreover attending medical representatives in OPD hours also torments waiting patients.
"The OPD doctors always come late and give more time to the pharmaceuticals representatives. We have to wait in long lines outside the doctors' chamber for hours," Bibi Naila, a patient standing in queue told PPI. She urged to take stern action to ensure punctuality of doctors and paramedics.
Some patients waiting for ultrasound in the hospital complained that two machines in the x-ray and ultrasound department often heat up after some use and many patients have to go home without getting their ultrasound tests done.
Medical Superintendent of Hospital Dr Salma Kausar when contacted said the doctors have already been asked to reach on time and they are now punctual. She said visitors are only allowed in hospital after 1 pm, after OPD time. Dr Salam said hospital has three ultrasound machines and only one of them needs repair, while two others were functioning properly.
