Over hundred activists of Jamaat-Ahle Sunnat on Saturday staged a demonstration in front of Multan press club to protest against the arrest of more than 100 sunni activists who were taking part in long march against pardoning a Christian woman Aasia Bibi who was sentenced to death in blasphemy case. The demo was led by Maulana Farooq Khan Saeedi and Moulana Sadiq Surani.
They shouted slogans against the government particularly Governor Punjab Salman Taseer. Addressing the demo Maulana Saeedi said, "We, the millions of sunnis will hold nation-wide protests if the government pardons the Christian woman Aasia Bibi due to the US pressure, "He said that Ulema in the parliament and provincial assemblies should raise this issue properly."
Moulana Surani said," We are ready to lay down our lives for this sacred cause." He said that they had assured the government of peaceful long march, however, the intentions of the government were malicious. "We have put up demand to remove Law Minister Punjab Rana Sanaullah but the government has declined to accept our demands," he said.
