Sindh government has distributed Rs 10 billion among at least 0.47 million flood affected families through Watan Cards, said Advisor to Chief Minister on Information Sharmila Farooqui. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday along with the officials of Nadra and banks, she said that of the Rs 10 billion, the Federal Government contributed Rs 5 billion.
She said that the affectees have been given Rs 20,000/- while the Sindh Government has requested the Federal Government to pay the promised rest of the Rs 80,000/- each per family. Sharmila said that still vast land of the province was under flood waters and efforts were being made to drain it out.
She said that it was endeavour of the provincial government that only the deserving people get Watan Cards and said that it was unfortunate that some people tried to cheat the Nadra officials by imposing themselves as flood victims. The issuance of Watan Cards started two days before Eid in the provinces of Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, she said and added that 7.2 million people were affected due to floods.
