The Inland Revenue Service (IRS) audit officers of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) have requested the Ministry of Finance and the tax authorities to immediately issue notification for upgradation of their posts under the new organisational structure of the Inland Revenue Service.
The issue of upgradation of the posts of Inland Revenue audit officers was discussed during an urgently called meeting of Inland Revenue Audit Officers Association held here on Saturday. According to sources, the audit officers of Large Taxpayer Units (LTUs) and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) attended the meeting.
They expressed serious concerns over undue delay in upgradation notification, and demanded from Secretary Finance to issue notification of upgradation of the post of Inland Revenue Audit Officer immediately. The association has also requested the chairman and top management of FBR to issue favourable letter to the Finance Division to resolve the issue without any further delay.
The association also advised all audit officers to work hard for achievement of revenue targets and to participate in the reconstruction and rehabilitation work of flood victims. The association already highlighted anomalies in the 'reformed GST' which should be rectified before its approval from parliament to harmonise the existing laws. The association strongly supported the RGST and declared it as a key measure for the documentation of the national economy.
The association also requested the chairman to take immediate steps for the implementation of the Board's order for the posting of Inland Revenue Audit Officers as Unit In-charge as per Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, Sales Tax Act,1990 and Federal Excise Act,2005. In a few RTOs/LTUs the Board's order has still not been implemented in true letter and spirit. This has created disparity among the countrywide Inland Revenue Audit Officers, the association added.
