What PPP Punjab newly-appointed President Imtiaz Safdar Warraich has said in his maiden media interaction in Punjab, can be summed up that the PML-N has pushed the PPP from the central Punjab to the Southern Punjab. Talking to media at the PPP Punjab office on Monday, Warraich said the PPP has won bye-pools in Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh, Gujranwala and Multan, which shows that Punjab is with the PPP.
"Especially Southern Punjab is with the PPP and both the Prime Minister and Foreign Minster are from this region," he said, adding, "The PPP was connecting the Southern Punjab with central Punjab through motorway, as the PPP is spending billions of rupees on development of Southern Punjab." He further said that the PPP would also strengthen party offices in Southern Punjab.
When asked what is the development outlay, his party has designed for a city like Lahore, Warraich said, "Lahore is responsibility of the Punjab government," adding the PPP government was working on 5km Shahdrah flyover project, shifting Ravi tool plaza ahead. He was also pointed out that how he could claim popularity in Southern Punjab when the PPP Punjab cabinet is full of stalwarts from Lahore.
He was accompanied by the PPP Punjab Secretary General Samiullah Khan, Information Secretary, Dr Fakhruddin Chaudhry, Finance Secretary, Aurangzeb Burki and other provincial office-bearers of the party. He said his maiden address to Lahore media was spoiled due to PPP's Jiyala culture at the Lahore airport, as he claimed himself to be a president from among the PPP workers.
He said the party reorganisation is a task assigned to him by the party co-Chairperson. He said the party workers would be made part of decision making and the active ones would be given more opportunity. According to him, the party would organise party conventions at the grass roots level to resolve day to day issues of the workers and all the provincial and fed ministers would actively participate to these conventions.
Warraich said the PPP Punjab team would also minimise the co-ordination gap with party workers and his immediate plan consisted of the founding day celebrations at district level with impressive participation of the provincial and federal ministers.
He said government of PPP in Punjab is his next target and prior to it he had instructed the party workers to prepare for local government elections. He said tickets would be offered to the party workers and especially the youth would be accommodated from the labour and ladies wings besides the seniors.
