The Obama administration has extended until at least 2017 a ban on deepwater drilling in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, which was closed after the BP oil spill, a senior US official said Wednesday. The official, who asked not to be named, said an official announcement providing details of the extension would be made later Wednesday by US Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.
