Flood affectees: NGOs accused of minting millions of dollars

07 Dec, 2010

Balochistan Minister for Excise and Taxation and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader, Mir Muhammad Ameen Umrani has said that non-governmental organisations lack a strategy for provision of relief to the flood affectees. In a statement issued on Monday, Umrani said NGOs could not provide relief assistance to flood survivors properly due to lack of strategy and planning.
He added that higher authorities have been apprised about the delay in issuance of Watan Cards to affectees. The minister alleged that NGOs are minting millions of dollars in the name of flood-hit people, but are not providing relief to them in letter and spirit. He further said some non-official institutions are providing such seeds to flood-affected farmers, which could not be cultivated next time.
