During Rabi crop season wheat would be sown over 5.21 million acres of land in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of Sialkot. Official sources in the agriculture department told Business Recorder on Tuesday that 92 percent sowing had already been completed in four tehsils of the district.
In order to attain the fixed target of wheat crop, the agriculture department has finalised necessary arrangements for the purpose and the wheat growers had been directed that only recommended and authenticated seeds should be sown for attaining yielding results of the crop.
The agriculture department would provide full assistance and guidance to the wheat growers for attaining better output of the crop as well as enhancing the per acreage yield in the district. The tehsil wise break-up of wheat cultivation is as in Daska 1.29 lakh acres, 68000 acres in Sambrial, 1.71 lakh acres Pasrur and 1.52 lakh acres in Sialkot tehsils of the district.
The agriculture department has initiated "Farmers Training Programme" in 1,431 villages of Sialkot district aimed at introducing latest wheat production techniques among the growers aimed at making grow more wheat campaign complete successful in Sialkot district. Apart from this, special training would also be imparted to the growers about the utilisation of pesticides, fertilisers, natural cultivation techniques and seeds at village level in Sialkot.
Special teams of field staff of agriculture department were visiting village to village for creating awareness about the proper use of fertiliser, irrigation and pesticides among the wheat growers of the district. Special steps have also been taken for checking the sale of fake and substandard pesticides and fertiliser in Sialkot, Daska and Pasrur tehsils of the district. Sialkot district administration has adopted solid measures for ensuring the provision of quality pesticides and fertilisers to the wheat growers in the district, sources added.
