District Co-ordination Officer/District Administrator Hyderabad, Aftab Ahmed Khatri has said that an educational reforms programme, aimed at make Hyderabad a model district in the education sector, is being implemented. This he stated, on Tuesday, while presiding over a meeting of officers and supervisors of education department at Shahbaz Hall, Shahbaz Building, Hyderabad.
Addressing the meeting, Khatri said that in this modern era when the world has become a global village, latest education with competitive approach is very much essential for the survival of any nation. He added that district government Hyderabad, realising such ground realities, has started conversion of Sindhi/Urdu medium schools into English medium schools, while 300 schools have already been converted to provide qualitative education facilities to the poor segment of society at their doorsteps.
He further that though district government is striving it hard to achieve this goal of standard education, active participation of students, teachers, parents and civil society for the purpose is very much essential. The DCO informed that the administration is experiencing some difficulties in getting the flood-hit schools repaired and internally displaced persons (IDPs)-occupied school vacated. He said that he has recommended the provincial government to release full allocation of maintenance & repair (M&R) head so that schools be repaired and restored.
He revealed that about seven schools of Qasimabad are still being used by the IDPs, hampering education to the students. He directed the officers concerned to prepare a scheme for repairing and rehabilitating damaged schools and propose substitute buildings for shifting the IDPs.
Khatri directed the officers to prepare and implement a foolproof monitoring system in the education sector and ensure that teachers and administration are functioning properly. He also directed the officers not to compromise on the quality of development works and complete them under the stipulated timeframe.
