PU asked to set up sub-campus in Jhelum

In order to meet the longstanding demand of the people of Jhelum and its neighbouring districts, Chief Minister of Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif has directed the oldest and largest varsity of the country, Punjab University to establish its sub-campus in Jhelum.
The chief minister has constituted a committee under the convenership of the chairman planning and development board, government of the Punjab. Secretary Higher Education, Vice-Chancellor Punjab University, Commissioner Rawalpindi Division and former MNA Raja Muhammad Afzal as its members. The chief minister has further directed the committee members to visit the proposed site on December 10 and prepare an action plan for execution in the best public interest.
In order to implement the chief minister's directive, the Vice-Chancellor Punjab University, Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran called an emergency meeting of varsity Deans Committee in his office on Wednesday for necessary homework before proceeding to the proposed sub-campus site on December 10 with regard to faculties to be started as well as other logistic arrangements.
The vice-chancellor has also directed the Registrar and Project Director of the varsity to work on project cost estimates including setting up of initial departments, creation of new teaching posts as well as administrative staff including modern laboratories, libraries and playgrounds keeping in view the expansion of the new sub-campus in future.
