Taiwan stocks lower

Taiwan stocks fell 0.4 percent on Friday as investors took profits from recent gains, while Asustek rose after it announced a plan to acquire an industrial PC maker and buy back some of its own shares. The main TAIEX share index closed down 35.01 points at 8,718.83, after reaching a 2-1/2-year closing high the previous session.
Among major decliners, the construction sub-index fell 3 percent and the financial sub-index fell 0.63 percent. The electronics sub-index was flat. Asustek shares jumped 1.8 percent, while top contract chipmaker TSMC lost 0.43 percent as it reported November sales that fell from October.
